(Ill. Composition by the author of her head in John William Waterhouse´s painting “Ophelia”)
Remembrance
"Rosemary is for remembrance…"
From the play "Ophelia", William Shakespeare
I remember.
They told me to forget
The lost years
The lost tears
The lost smiles…
All the losses –
Every scraped knee
Every moment of glee
The growing limbs
The dreams and whims
Trials and triumphs…
They told me to forget.
They told me it was wrong
Not to be strong
And miss what I´ve missed…
They were outraged
They were enraged
So they ordered me
Not to fret.
They ordered me
To forget.
But then I see
What I didn´t see
And the whirlwind returns.
So they told me
To forget
But I…
I remember.
