JUSTICE – A QUEST

I´m an avid consumer of crime books, TV series and movies. I like to see the bad guys going to jail and the good guys saving the day, but I like this kind of fiction because I know that they are just that. They´re fiction. In real life things are not like that at all. They are not like the words of the beautiful song that accompanies this message – “Into the West”, from the last movie of The Lord of The Rings´trilogy.
In fact, I´ve been interested in Justice since my early years. As a matter of fact, it was in the pursuit of Justice that I went into Law School, and it was in the pursuit of Justice that I abandoned my studies. I saw there was no Justice in the Law, so I began studying Religion instead.
Now, every single Religion claims Good´ll always win, and Evil´ll always lose. I liked that – but soon discovered this also was not true – in a way. I wasn´t interested in victory after death, of a Heaven for the good and a Hell for the bad, so I went deeper in my researches - and the following is what I´ve discovered so far, based on my studies on the Jewish Tanach, the Christian Bible, the Muslim Koran, countless branches of Mysticism and the entire Greek, Roman, Nordic, Celtic and American Indian Mythologies:
Yes, evil will always lose, and good will always win - but not in one´s lifetime. There was a reason G´d spoke to the Jews in terms of Houses: “you and your House”. Moses, Saul, David, Salomon and so forth, never received what was promised to them, be it good or bad, but their descendants did. The same goes for the Mystic Law of Three Times Three – it also rarely benefits its claimer, but it does his or hers descendants. Now, all of this, the Jewish claim and the Mysticim´s, can be both easily proved by close examination of people´s lives and experiences.
Now, the life-after-death claim of all branches of Christianity and the Islamic faith is yet to be proved, since nobody ever returned to let us know except in their own literature. And the karmic Law of Reincarnation transfers rewards and punishments to another life – which can also be proved only through personal accounts, without corroboration but through faith.
So I went back to the Jewish Tanach, and examined its concepts on the light of real people´s lives, beginning with my own. And I´ve concluded it´s real. Evil does receive its punishments and good does receive its rewards – but in the generations that follow.
It does not seem fair. All those children praying for their lives, praying for peace, praying for food, shelter, warm clothes. And miserably dying, their small innocent bodies littering the streets of all cities, the extermination camps of all times, the fields of all nations. What´s wrong with all of this? Is our Creator that cruel, that He allows them to die in vain, suffer insufferable pains? I don´t speak of men and women. They´re hardly ever innocent enough to claim any right to be rescued.
So I let myself collapse under this horrible truth: we-are-alone. There´s no one up there or down there to rescue us and our children. But WHY?
And it was only in recent years that I found the answer. I´ve put it in a poem, and I hope you´ll read it – and heed it:

Na verdade, interessei-me por Justiça desde bem pequena. Para falar a verdade, foi na busca por Justiça que entrei na Faculdade de Direito, e foi na busca por Justiça que saí. Descobri que não havia Justiça na Lei, então, ao invés disso, comecei a estudar Religião.
Ora, cada Religião diz que o Bem sempre vence, e o Mal sempre perde. Gostei disso – mas logo descobri que não era verdade – de uma certa forma. Eu não estava interessada em vitória após a morte, ou num Céu para os bons e um Inferno para os maus, então aprofundei-me ainda mais nas minhas pesquisas – e o que se segue é o que descobri até agora, baseada nos meus estudos da Tanach judaica, na Bíblia cristã, o Alcorão muçulmano, inúmeros ramos do Misticismo, e todas as Mitologias gregas, romanas, nórdicas, celtas e dos nativos americanos:
Sim, o mal sempre perderá, e o bem sempre vencerá – mas não durante a vida de uma pessoa. Há um motivo pelo qual D´us falou aos judeus em termos de “Casas”: “tu e tua casa”. Moisés, Saul, Davi, Salomão e todos os demais, nunca receberam o que lhes havia sido prometido, fosse bom ou ruim, mas seus descendentes sim. O mesmo acontece com a Lei Mística do Três-Vezes-Três – ela raramente beneficia aquele que a clama, mas sim os seus ou suas descendentes. E tudo isso – o que tanto os judeus quanto os místicos clamam – pode ser facilmente comprovado através do exame minucioso da vida e experiências das pessoas.
Ora, a afirmação, tanto de cristãos quanto de muçulmanos, de uma vida após a morte, ainda está por ser confirmada, já que ninguém retornou para nos contar, exceto nas páginas da própria literatura deles. E a Lei kármica da Reencarnação transfere recompensas e punições para outras vidas – coisa que também só pode ser comprovada através de relatos pessoais, sem corroboração a não ser através da fé.
Então retornei à Tanach judaica, e examinei seus conceitos sob a luz da vida de pessoas reais, começando com a minha própria. E concluí que é verdade. O mal realmente recebe suas punições, e o bem realmente recebe suas recompensas – mas nas gerações seguintes.
Não parece justo. Todas aquelas crianças rezando por suas vidas, orando por paz, orando por alimento, abrigo, roupas quentes… E miseravelmente falecendo, seus corpinhos inocentes espalhados pelas ruas de todas as cidades, pelos campos de extermínio de todos os tempos, pelo território de todas as nações. O que está errado com tudo isso? Será que o Criador é tão cruel, que permite que elas morram em vão, sofram dores insuportáveis? Não estou falando de homens e mulheres. Eles não são lá muito inocentes para reivindicarem qualquer tipo de resgate.
Então eu me desmoronei sob o peso dessa terrível verdade: nós-estamos-sozinhos. Não há ninguém lá em cima ou lá embaixo que venha resgatar a nós e nossas crianças. Mas POR QUÊ?
