OUR COLDEST WINTER

there were no great discoveries until june

so we decided to keep the television off

the days grew colder and we started to cough

up in the sky only a lonely moon

we ate all the bread and honey we had for the season

and in the cupboard there were only broken plates

the days grew still colder and life increased its rates

since we could not tell pride from reason

there were no sun enough to warm the room again

so we decided to unfold our shabby old blankets

and lose ourselves in imaginary banquets

where the main course was a lamb slaughtered without pain
