THE SONG OF THE SEAS !

(O Canto do Mar)

I crossed, without being mired

(Eu atravessei, sem ficar encalhado)

Dante's Aqueronte river

(O rio Aqueronte de Dante)

And, naturally, I've got tired

(E, naturalmente fiquei cansado)

Of Rowing and Rhyming without a quiver.

(De remar e rimar sem me queixar)

I grabbed the Oar

(Eu apanhei o Remo)

And went around the World

(E fui pelo mundo afóra)

From Village to Village without a roar

(De vila em vila sem estardalhaço)

Looking for people Young and Old. .

(procurando por pessôas moças e velhas)

Who had no idea of sorts

(Que não tinham a menor idéia)

Of what an Oar could do.

(Do que um Remo podia fazer)

I grew bad sores without retorts

(Fiquei com muitas feridas sem me queixar)

And blisters on my feet too . . .

(E bôlhas nos pés tambem)

Going aimlessly around

(Indo assim ao léo)

I would ask: "What is this?"

Eu perguntava: "O que é isso?"

-'Tis an Oar, they'd answer without rebound,

(É um Remo eles respondian sem retrucar)

Equating sorenesses with obvious bliss!

(Igualando feridas com óbvias bençãos)

So, bearing the Oar,

(Então, segurando o Remo)

And with terrible blisters,

(E com Bôlhas terríveis)

I arrived at ATLANTIS of famed lore,

(Eu cheguei em ATLANTIS de fama histórica)

Submersed and devasted as by thousand twisters.

(Submersa e devastada por milhares de Tornados)

And I asked the beautiful Muse:

(E aí eu pertuntei à Linda Musa)

"Do you know what this is?

(Você sabe o que é isso?)

The answer: "A lute for playing. Is there a better use?

(A resposta: Um alaude para tocar. Existe melhor uso?)

It is neither for Rhyming nor for Rowing, said Sis. . "

(Não é nem para Rimar nem para Remar, disse ela. . )

Because I did not know how to cry,

(Porque eu não sabia como chorar)

With blisters stinging my hands like thousand bees,

(Com bôlhas doendo nas mãos como picadas de mil abelhas)

I Played on my Oar a very dear Lulaby :

(Eu toquei no meu Remo uma linda canção)

" The Song of the Seas. . "

(A " Canção do Mar " . . )
