José Dirceu is back

Back on the political scene, former Minister of the Civil House José Dirceu wants to participate in strategic municipal campaigns for the PT and thinks that the party needs to "rethink its role" to face the "strength of the right". The movement to rehabilitate Dirceu has the approval of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, but causes apprehension in PT wings.

Since he was convicted and arrested three times, in the wake of the Mensalão and Lava Jato cases, Dirceu has been ineligible. Last month, however, the former minister's defense, led by lawyer Roberto Podval, filed a petition with the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to annul all of his Lava Jato convictions.
