Vamos dar continuidade, apresentando as preposições restantes do grupo.

N SUPPORT OF - INTO – LIKE – MINUS – NEAR – NEXT TO

IN SUPPORT OF – Em benefício; a favor.

Ex.: a) Our congregation uses all the money and donation in support of the poor families of this county.

b) Could you contribute with 10% of your salary in support of our

church?

INTO – Implica direção ao interior e também transformação a um novo estado.

1 – Destinoao interior.

Ex.: a) He jumped from the second floor and disappeared into the water.

b) Put the hairbrush back into the cupboard as soon as you finish with it, please.

2 – Transformação.

Ex.: a) If you go to the U.S.A. you’ll need to change your reais into dollars.

b) Now, put these sentences into the negative form.

LIKE – 1 – Expressa tipo de comportamento.

Ex.: a) Bill acts like a child every time he drinks too much alcohol.

b) We’re gonna have new visitors tonight. I hope you behave like real adorable children.

2 – Expressa também semelhança.

Ex.: a) She takes people on tours to countries in South America, like Peru.

b) She sings like a bird.

MINUS – 1) Quer dizer ausência ou falta de alguém ou alguma coisa.

Ex.: a) We began the show minus our main dancer who had been caught in the rush.

b) she brought all the items listed minusthe milk for her baby.

2) Indica também subtração, quando utilizada em aritmética.

Ex.: a) Eight minus three equals five.

b) I had twenty dollars in my wallet, minus eighteen dollars I used to pay the taxi, that means two dollars left.

NEAR – Tem o mesmo sentido de proximidade e também semelhança.

1 – Porperto; nasproximidades.

Ex.: a) Mark doesn’t need to take the subway to get to college. He studies near his office.

b) Let’s meet at that restaurant near the subway station.

2 – Posição aproximada.

Ex.: a) Sit near the teacher if you want to listen to him well; he speaks in a low voice.

b) That dog is really strange. He spends my whole lunch sitting near my chair but never accepts any food.

3 – Estando próximo em semelhança.

Ex.: a) So far no other footballer hasn’t come near Pelé in creativity and talent.

b) It took him years to become a nice player but never came nearhis father who was the best of all times.

NEXT TO – Muito próximo, quase tocando.

Ex.: a) We’re lucky to live next to the supermarket and to go shopping in such

a short time.

b) I’ll sit next to you during our math class tomorrow if you don’t mind. I need to understand everything very well.
