A brief discussion about loneliness
We are all troubled by the idea of loneliness, do not we?
Have lunch alone, going to the movies alone, travel alone: these are some of our nightmares every day. Loneliness is a sentence, a stigma, almost a mark spiked in the flesh of the loneliness.
But why?
Well, one reason is that loneliness is treated with kicks in every film, in novels and all in all we see and also in conversations. That is the message we continuously received.
Does it make sense?
No, do not. This leads us to always depend on others to be happy.
Cicero said: "Who depends only on himself and in himself puts everything has all the conditions to be happy."
Much later, Dostoyevsky wrote that being alone is a "natural need, like sleeping and eating".
Schopenhauer said that people cannot stand the loneliness because they don't bear themselves.
The rich Chineses , late in life, they used abandon the richness and comfort, in a remote and solitary life, having the chance to meditate and reflect.
Once I saw in a movie, a wise message about the topic . It was in American Beauty. A teenage girl witnesses a horrible fight between her parents at dinner. Shocked she goes to her room, where his mother then appears and says, "Today you've learned the greatest lesson of life. Rely solely on yourself. "
Plato would not have said a better phrase.
