Adventure In The Rainforest
Last year four British students, Tom Eduard, Sally Fisher, Jack Harris, and Hillary Richards, went to the Amazon rainforest on a few days. One day Tom and Sally decided to go for a walk in the rainforest. They left at 8´o clock in the morning.and had brought with them water, food, flashlights, matches, one tent and other things. Jack and Hillary had stayed in the village, because she didn´t want to leave the village without one guide and Jack planned to stay with her.
Tom and Sally were walking by the rainforest about five hours. They started to feel tired. Then, they decided to stop. Sally sat down in a stone and put her left hand in the ground. She realized something with hands of her… It was a type of Indian necklace with one beautiful green stone and little feathers. It was dirty with dry mud.
— It should have belonged to an Indian woman. –said Tom.
— Or to a man. They use these types of ornaments too. – answered Sally, putting the necklace on her neck.
— It´s time to come back, Sally.— On the way back they stopped in the river to drink water, but that was the third time that they were passing by there. They were lost and the night was coming.
— What are we going to do? – asked Sally very scared.
Tom tried to calm Sally he wasn´t successful. He decided to use the tent to spend the night.
— We stay here and nothing will happen with us.
Suddenly, Sally remembered that she had a compass in the pocket of her coat but the boat had been forgotten in the village.
—It´s all right, Sally. We can survive this night. — Then they camped in the rainforest.
In the middle of night, Tom was sleeping but Sally kept her eyes open. A flashlight was on and she was looking thoughtful to the necklace. ´´What secrets should it hide?´´, she thought. It was then, that she heard the noise of steps. The scared Sally turned off the flashlights and tried to wake up Tom, but he was deeply asleep. Sally shrugged herself in a corner of the tent. Some minutes after the noise stopped and nothing happened. Sally made up her mind and tried to sleep. This way the day would arrive faster. But the night was so long…
When the dawn came, Sally was exhausted and Tom woke up. She decided not to tell anything to him, probably, he wouldn´t believe her. However, when Tom was going out of the tent, he moved back quickly.
—There is someone lying down in front of the tent!
Tom went out again and he realized that was an Indian and he had started to move.
—He is alive! – said. When the guide – indian got up explained to them:
—Friends of yours were worried because you didn´t come back to get dark. Then, some of us were looking for you. I found the tent and I knew that it was the tourist that we were looking for. But, I didn´t want to scare you, then I stayed here waiting for you to wake up.
—Thank you so much, then. You didn´t scare us. Sally?
- –Oh! Yes, yes! Not a little.
They came back to the village. They found their friends, Jack and Hillary, and they could see the relief in their eyes. They were happen because your friends had come back safe. When Tom and Sally were talking about their adventure, Tom remembered Sally of the necklace.
—Oh no! I should have lost it on the way back! An Indian that had heard their talk, answered:
—The secrets of the forest must remain in the forest and the nature took care of this for itself.
