UNWILLINGNESS
UNWILLINGNESS (May 3, 2006)
Women are said to be better in waiting
Than most men; across the centuries
They had stayed at home, while in ventures
Men went out, sometimes returning
With hands full of gold for them to wed,
Or coming back penniless to beg
For some tenderness and love to drag
Them out of defeat, heartbroken and sad.
Or never to return and all the time spent
In lonely waiting led to nothing but woe:
For this too women are ready to expect...
But it is hard to wait, so many years I lent
To that expectation; then you come and go
And my heart gets broken and anxious to connect.
