Duckling Returns

On Tuesday afternoon, I was in the laundry room washing my clothes, when I heard two ducks quacking away in the swimming pool. I thought to myself, could it be… the female duck is back? Sure enough, she was. It has been more than a week, since the female duck had showed up. I was watching them, while they were swimming side by side, the drake quacking softly while the female duck just listen. Maybe he was saying; how much he misses her and what had happened while she was away. Sometimes she answered him by quacking softly; maybe they were catching up with the gossip. The drake seems to be happy to see her, the way he screams and flaps his wings really fast. I think he just has a burst of energy that he needs to get out of his system or this is how he gets her attention.

I could imagine their peaceful conversation going like this:

DRAKE: How’s your mother?

DUCK: She’s fine. She sent her regards.

DRAKE: Very kind of her. How’s grandducky?

DUCK: Well, he’s always getting into trouble; he must be in his mischievous state.

DRAKE: He’s young at heart my love, it’s nothing serious.

DUCK: Maybe you are right. – She looked around the swimming pool and asked.

DUCK: So, what had happened while I was away?

DRAKE: Nothing much. I heard the weather is getting warmer, and I met some other drakes who were passing by, they stopped and chatted with me.

DUCK: I’m glad you made some new friends.

DRAKE: Me too. But I miss you the most my Duckling.

DUCK: Really? – Her eyes were wide opened, and she gave him a beak smile.

DRAKE: Yes, you have no idea. – He was holding her two wings tenderly and promised.

DRAKE: I’ll promise you, I’ll never take your presence for granted.

DUCK: Really?

DRAKE: Really. Let’s go swimming my Duckling, and spend the time together quacking.

DUCK: I love the idea.

They spent the time together, quacking and swimming, until the first rays of sunlight disappear.
